If I say, relax your brain, you cannot do it. If I put you into a certain asana, your brain relaxes, and you become quiet. This is the beauty of yoga – B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Life.
The beauty of going on retreat… The speed, stress and strains of modern life can send the human system out of balance. We are more connected with others than ever before, but are finding it more difficult to connect with ourselves. Our body, mind and spirit are pulled in different directions and it can become increasingly difficult to find calm in our day.
Dedicating yourself, physically, mentally and emotionally, to go on a yoga retreat provides the unique opportunity to focus, maintain, deepen and develop your practice without all the pressures of everyday life. There is something about being in Bali that elicits a strong response in us. Yes, it is very beautiful and warm, but it is more than this. Every Balinese is trying to come back as a god. I wonder if this affects us when we are there? Caroline Coggins is a Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, with more than 30 years teaching experience. Caroline is the Director of The Yoga Centre. East Redfern and has been running Iyengar Yoga retreats in Bali for more than 15 years.
